About iTALY
Introduction to the entertainment world began early for iTALY, his debut being at age three, when on the runway sporting a mane of curly hair hanging midback he won the hearts of the crowd. His first gig came through Heyman Talent, and he did television and print modeling for a few years. It was only natural that iTALY’s inclination would be to the music industry, as he came from a family of musicians. His father, Billay, was lead singer and played keyboards in the early 80’s for Magnitude, a band that toured opening for national recording artists. iTALY also grew up under the influence of his uncle, Chuck Brooks, popular songwriter and performer with a history that includes working for Stax Records, A&M (Arista), and Malaco Records. Brooks was a writer for some of the era’s greats such as Johnnie Taylor and the Staples, but he is most known for his song “Taxi” performed by Grammy nominated Jay Blackfoot. iTALY highly regards his uncle’s advice and gives him his full attention when he stops by the studio to hear his latest works. By age eleven iTALY was exercising his natural abilities, mastering Sonar1 so he could record and produce his creations. He joined a family project giving input on vocals and writing on a commercial jingle and also on “It’s a New Who Dey” about the Cincinnati Bengals, a song they performed on a morning TV news program. iTALY continued to hone his skills, and today in addition to his own productions, he plays a role in the writing, production, and engineering of most works coming out of CarriageHouse Entertainment, and is currently working with artists MickeyJoseph and PhostaChild. He is currently also working on a video project composing and synchronizing music to a medical video. Remember the name – iTALY – this 18 year old phenom is just getting started. When asked about why he chose to be known as iTALY, he replies, “ I get second looks from people all the time who are trying to figure me out. I don’t look black and I don’t look white. My multiracial makeup includes Italian on my father’s side, and when I say that, I always hear that I look Italian. I started going by Little Italy, but now that I’m the tallest in my family, iTALY is more appropriate.” When asked about the cultural influences in his family, iTALY says, “The thing I love about our family is that there is no room for racism as we have nearly every skin tone represented. One grandmother was Blackfoot Indian and African American, another is of Appalachian heritage. I like to think that our family represents this country in that our diversity is our strength.” While he is able to appreciate all genres of music, iTALY admits his inclination is toward hip hop. He says, “Guess those black genes came out stronger in my music than in my looks.” Right now it’s looking like he really is the one to give a second look.
