About Juke
Juke, a Cincinnati native, is born a natural entertainer. From an early age his antics kept his family shaking their heads, as they joked about his future as a comedian. At home and at school he was known for his impersonations of school personnel, family members, and TV personalities. His affinity for music was evidenced as he performed a solo in the church choir and formed a group at school called Child’s Play, rappers performing to the beat of pencils on the tables. It was only natural that Juke would exhibit musical abilities, as he came from a family of musicians. His father, Billay, was lead singer and played keyboards in the early 80’s for Magnitude, a band that toured opening for national recording artists. Juke is also nephew to Chuck Brooks, popular songwriter and performer with a history that includes working for Stax Records, A&M (Arista), and Malaco Records. Brooks was a writer for some of the era’s greats such as Johnnie Taylor and the Staples, but he is most known for his song “Taxi” performed by Grammy nominated Jay Blackfoot. The music gene in the family has been passed along to Juke. In recent years Juke was a founding member of the group DaFam and collaborated on songs Parking Lot, Treat You Right, Hand, City Slickas, No Swipin, and $. Under the Carriage House Entertainment umbrella he currently writes, raps, and makes beats in collaboration with other CHE artists iTALY, PhostaChild, MickeyJoseph and Billay. He has also begun producing music with a group called A-Team. He is featured on MickeyJoseph’s song, So Close, and has three songs soon to be released. Juke has traveled to LA the last three years to participate in conferences sponsored by the independent A&R company, TAXI. He was recently featured in a television commercial for a prominent wireless service provider. Juke says his music doesn’t just entertain others, but that it entertains himself, and he credits his interest in music as a diversion from getting into trouble. Rapping for Juke comes natural, as the words flow out of his daily experiences. As a kid you could expect him to bust out with a rhyme about peanut butter and jelly, now his songs speak to issues of today. Look for his upcoming new releases.
